🍀 After The Rain - 3/17/26
Mar 17, 2026
Well, someone had to go see the damage, might as well be us. It's a massive disappointment to not even reach the base of the Sherb and see the river spilling over onto the trail. What followed were ephemeral streams everywhere. The snowpack took a massive hit over this past week and the 2" of rain we just got really sent things into a spiral. I've never seen so much water flowing down on "coreshot corner".
That said, you can still pick your way down without taking your skis off but it felt more like late April conditions up there, jumping from patch to patch and cautiously riding the edge of the trail.
As far as the ravine goes - well that's the silver lining. The headwall stayed intact (although severely undermined) and the rain changed to snow so new slabs are forming as I type this. The longterm forecast looks great for >3000' but I don't see how the lower Sherburne recovers from this one. Photos in reverse chronological order, bottom of the Sherb up to the ravine.

Core-shot Corner - raging.
The top of the Cutler - surprisingly a snow bridge exists at the Connection Cache.

The floor of the ravine - some wetslide debris.
