With the new snow and an all time forecast for this Saturday (sunny and minimal wind) we knew it was the time to explore something new.... Raymond's Cataract! We started in Pinkham and took the winter ascent up Lion's Head and once we were in the alpine we traversed hard to lookers right that dropped us into the gully of Raymond Cataract - just above the waterfall (it was not frozen over). We skinned up until the sastrugi was hip height and then we transitioned and booted the rest. The snow surface got a little firm and sun affected so we transitioned to skiing down about 200 feet below the ridge line. Once we got on the wind-buff surface Raymond Cataract skied awesome - we just wish it was a longer run! Just before the waterfall we transitioned and booted up Raymond Cataract and traversed lookers left to get back on the Lion's Head trail. Once on the trail we continued up until we were above Right Gulley. WOW Right Gulley did not disappoint! It was still in the sun and the wind board snow maintained an edge and it was playful. We descended little headwall and skirted to the right of the waterfall. The Sherb is also in prime conditions with minimal ice - hopefully you like some soft moguls!
