Great Gulf Slackfest 4/29/25

Photo from the Auto Road showing the Mt Clay lines skied today.

Today was worth the drive up for the Mt Washington AC -temps hit 54ºF on the summit. I picked up my season pass from the Toll House ($125 + each passenger either needs a pass or pays a flat fee of $36, new pricing this year). Driving up, you get a chance to see how things look in the Great Gulf and saw that Hallway, Pipeline, and Drainpipe all looked worth dropping into.

It took 20 minutes to hike the mile over to Hallway which sits in the saddle between north and south clay and skied well for 700'. You could hear the water running under the snowpack towards the bottom section so its days are limited.

Pipeline skied a little shorter, more like 500' and I was joined with good company from a mostly-VT crew (Adam, Caleb, Matt, & Brent).

Drainpipe was nice and spicy as the lower choke required a veggie belay. Many skiers opted for Airplane which skied well, especially the Spacewalk entrance as well as Turkey Chute. A few photos below from the day.

Drainpipe, hard to find the entrance but a favorite line in the Great Gulf.
