LAST NORDIC SKIER STANDING 2025

We are excited to announce the first edition of Last Nordic Skier Standing, presented by Fischer Sports, that will be hosted by WMSC and Jackson Ski Touring right in our back yard. Please find all information below.
Dates: Jan 31st - Feb 2nd...
Start: Friday 10AM
Location: Jackson XC Nordic Center Parking Lot
Participants: Capped at 100 - See who's registered
Entry Fee: $150 - Register here / Volunteer here
TENTATIVE Course: Wentworth / Ellis trails conditions dependent ~8km, warm-up loop to start each lap. The goal is to have the lap take 45 minutes for the average skier, allowing plenty of interloopal time for self-care.
The concept is simple, participants must complete one lap on the course within an hour. They can't start the next lap until the next hour and the event is over when there's only one person left.
We'll also have a Nordic Beer Mile presented by Best Day Brewing at noon on Feb 1st.
Accommodations: The Nordic Village Resort has blocked off some rooms and is offering 20% off if you mention "White Mountain Ski Co".
Parking: We'll be using the main lot for Jackson XC. All spots will be close to the event tent but make sure to pack it in tight!
Check-in is from 8 to 9:30am - registration will be located in or near the event tent . You’ll get your bib and swag. We’ll be doing a group photo at 9:55 with a pre-event briefing.
Tent / Venue Area: We will have a large event tent where we’ll have tables, propane heaters, chairs, blankets, food and beverage (see below), electricity, lights, and more. There will be additional venue space to set up a personal crew station (10 x 10 tent). We'll have a couple waxing stations too!
Format / Rules: This event format is pretty simple, one lap, on the hour, every hour. We'll have a grace period as it's going to take a little bit (~20 seconds) to get everyone out of the starting area. There is no outside aid allowed (no 'muling' on the course but you can take aid when you pass through the starting area on the opening short loop). The event will end when there is only one person left or when everyone quits!
Course: We will utilize the best trails Jackson XC has to offer. We'll meet with Jackson XC to figure out the best route / distance come event day - the goal is for the average skier to be finished in 45-50mins with plenty of interloopal time. We know that snow conditions are day-to-day and want to make sure we have an appropriate course given the conditions.
Suggested Items to Bring:
- Personal Food and drink items that you know work for you. We'll have typical salty / sweet aid station food, pb&j's, hot water, ramen, burgers, burritos, coffee, you name it, that will supplement your personal food.
- A chair / blanket / small piece of carpet
- Spare gear. We’ll do our best to help with failures
- Headlamp.
- Blister Prevention kit. We’ll supply what we can but suggest some glide stick, moleskin, tape, or whatever works for you.
- We’ll have volunteers helping with keeping you warm, fed, and hydrated. We have a couple propane heaters for the tent. The tent will also have electricity. We want you to be able to focus on the event and not worry about these items!
Safety / Medical: Safety is our priority and we do our best to ensure that we have medical staff on hand. There will be general public on the course so please give them the right of way. We have the discretion to pull a skier from the event if we feel it's unsafe for them to continue. If someone needs aid on-course, please stop and help. You will not be penalized and will be able to continue in the event.
Bathrooms: We will have several port-a-potties near the tent.
Awards: We will have category and recognition awards as well as other giveaways throughout the event. We asked for categories (skate / classic / combi) in order to gauge what styles people would be doing. You can change categories mid-event (i.e. go from skate to combi).
Flexibility: As with life, things don't always go as planned. We might make on-the-fly modifications to the event if we feel it can make the event better or safer. This might include a course change or delayed lap start time. We don’t plan on this happening but understand there could be some slight changes day-of the event (last year at LSS we had a hold for lightning!).
