Started skiing up to HOJO’s by the Sherb as the TRT was quite bad yesterday. Confirming that skinning is much better going up on the Sherb, except the bottom two pitches.
Bundled up at Hermit and decided to put crampons up at that point to get into Tuck’s. The last rain uncovered a lot of brush at the base of the bowl
Visibility and temperatures were much nicer than 29/11 so we decided to keep going once at the bottom of the bowl.
Based on yesterday’s conditions we decided to go up Chicken rock/Sluice/TRT (whatever you want to call it, that thing.). Booting up was good—crampons needed in some spots higher up in right gully.
First lap confirmed good snow on top of a firm icier crust. A couple of slabs to keep an eye on for sure.
After the first lap we traversed over to right gully avoiding a convex loaded feature and stopped a bit above the choke.
Some good turns to be found on the way down if you know where to go! Definitely lots of nee snow higher up.
Solid little day out.
Sherb skied great up top, but the new snow covered all the rocks lower down… so more surprises to be found.
PS: if you want to do a skimo workout up the Sherb I highly recommend asking your friends to carry all your gear up!
