Windy Sherb 1/20/25

It was cold and windy in Pinkham Notch this morning but that didn't stop the hardy few from getting out there and earning some fresh turns. About 4" of snow fell overnight with high winds, piling up some nice drifts but leaving other areas firm and scoured. The Sherburne Ski Trail is skiing nicely but there are still a couple fins poking through in the more wind affected areas. Reports from the west side (Cog Railway) are roughly the same: cold and windy with scoured surfaces.

As the storm pulled away blue skies emerged yet the spindrift and blowing snow up high prevented any visibility into the ravines. Arctic temps are on the horizon so bundle up and cover that nose if you're heading out. Another perfect day for a faceGlove.

The Mount Washington Avalanche Center is now issuing a daily avalanche forecast, which can be found here.

Not the first one down today but still plenty of fresh snow to be had!

A little nugget off in the woods offered some nice turns

  • Thanks so much for the updates! I am going to bring up my family from Boston this weekend and hope to ski in the tuckermans ravine if it is good. Do we need avalanche beacons?
