Atomic Backland 102

The Backland 102 is a great option for tourers who want to cover ground on the way up without giving up much on the way down. At 102mm underfoot, it has the width to float in fresh snow while staying versatile enough to handle chop and variable conditions.

Atomic’s FreeTour Profile pairs a lightweight poplar and caruba wood core with a more substantial feel underfoot, giving the ski a nice balance of uphill efficiency and downhill power. The HRZN 3D tip helps it stay on top of deeper snow, while the Powder Rocker profile keeps things playful and easy to maneuver when the snow gets soft or chopped up.

At around 1,430g per ski in the 179cm length, the Backland 102 hits a sweet spot for skiers looking to go a little farther into the backcountry without feeling undergunned on the descent. Atomic has also reworked the construction to use more wood and less fiberglass, metal, and resin, reducing material-related CO₂-equivalent emissions by 26% compared with the 2022 Backland 100.
