Description
Atomic Backland 108 W
For skiers chasing deep snow and bigger lines in the backcountry, the Atomic Backland 108 W is built to make the most of the descent without adding too much weight on the way up. At 108mm underfoot, it has plenty of float for powder days while staying playful and manageable when the snow gets tracked out or chopped up. It’s a great option for bigger tours where you want a lightweight setup that can still handle some serious terrain.
Atomic’s FreeTour Profile uses a poplar and caruba Ultra Light Woodcore, combining low weight with the stiffness needed for confident skiing. The HRZN 3D tip adds surface area to help the ski plane through deeper snow, while the Powder Rocker profile pairs generous tip and tail rocker with camber underfoot for a surfy, easy-to-maneuver feel in powder, crud, and chop. Dura Cap Sidewalls help provide reliable edge grip and added durability when conditions get firmer.
At a listed weight of around 1,310g per ski in the 167cm length, the Backland 108 W strikes a nice balance between uphill efficiency and downhill performance. It’s light enough for longer approaches but still has the width and construction to feel at home when the snow is deep and the terrain opens up.
Atomic has also reworked the construction to use more wood and less fiberglass, metal, and resin, reducing material-related CO₂-equivalent emissions by 26% compared with the 2022 Backland 100.
If powder-focused tours and bigger mountain objectives are your thing, the Backland 108 W is a solid choice for getting out there, putting in the work, and making the descent count.
