Description

Atomic Backland 109

For skiers who head into the backcountry looking for deep snow and big lines, the Backland 109 is built to make the most of the descent without adding a ton of weight to the climb. With a 109mm waist, it has plenty of float for powder days while staying playful and manageable when things get tracked out or variable.

Atomic’s FreeTour Profile uses more poplar wood and less fiberglass and resin to give the ski a lively, powerful feel without sacrificing touring efficiency. The HRZN 3D tip helps it plane through deeper snow, while the Powder Rocker profile combines plenty of tip and tail rocker with camber underfoot for easy maneuverability in powder, chop, and crud. There’s also a full ash wood inlay under the binding for added security where it counts.

At around 1,540g per ski in the 184cm length, the Backland 109 strikes a nice balance between uphill efficiency and confident downhill performance. It’s a great option for skiers who don't mind putting in the work to reach bigger objectives and want a ski that can handle the goods when they get there.

Atomic has also reworked the construction to use more lower-impact materials, reducing CO₂-equivalent emissions by 26% compared with the 2022 Backland 100.
