Description
Dressed in its famous one-piece fluorescent yellow, the Orb Freebird is a reference in ski touring. The Orb Freebird is undergoing its fourth modernization and continues to write the history of touring.
With a refined outline, enhanced flex, and lighter weight, this modernization respects the fundamentals of this ski, which was originally designed for precision on descents. Narrower sidecuts at the tips and tails, but wider at the waist, maintain good float while improving grip, especially on steep slopes. Its 18-meter radius remains unchanged, preserving the balance of its DNA as a ski with excellent skiability and exceptional confidence when caution is required on the descent. It also features a new, intuitive, and lighter climbing skin system. Bon voyage.
- width: 91mm
- radius: 18m
- solid flex underfoot with ash wood inserts for better binding retention
- weight: 1450g in the 178cm length
Greg's Take: I took these for a rip last winter and was pleasantly surprised at how well they felt on the descent. At 5'9" I opted for the 173cm length which tips the scale at 1375g. Paired with an ATK RT11 EVO and you've got a light and fast setup that still rips. The skis were responsive edge to edge and felt maneuverable yet stable in firm bumps and choppy snow. I did not have a chance to test them in powder, but then again at 91mm underfoot this isn't a ski for the deepest of days. The Orb is a solid option if you are looking for a versatile ski that handles both the steeps and low angle snow with ease.
