It's Saturday 2/21 and Tuckerman Ravine felt like West Coast skiing today. We arrived at Pinkham Notch around 8:30am and got on Tuckerman's Ravine Trail by 9:00am. By about 10:30am, we were at the care takers hut, ripped the skins off, A-framed the skis slapped on crampons and away we went.
As were were on the .7 mile climb from the deck to the bowl clouds began to settle in, then just as soon as they came they left. This was the pattern for the day. Zero visibility to blue bird in five minutes. As we entered Tuckerman Ravine the only run that was not socked in was Lobster Claw, so we set off and built a boot pack as we climbed. We were the initial two up lobster claw, as Hillmans' Highway seemed to be the popular run for today, and it was great. We had it all to ourselves till other caught on to our secret. As we began to switch over and slap on our skis, 15 people appeared out of nowhere. An after just us two skied it most of the freshies where skied off, leaving the signature Tuckerman's ice. I can only imagine what it was like after that big group skied it.Â
We didn't wait a moment in the bowl after our decent and went right for the Sherburne Ski Trail, which was fairly busy as to be expected. Most of the fresh snow added to the pre existing moguls on the sherb for the entire way. All in all it was a top 10 day at Tuckerman's.
