Central and Escape Hatch 2/19/25
Feb 19, 2025
John and I took to the skin track this morning to have a poke around Huntington Ravine. Arctic temperatures greeted us in the parking lot, making for a slow start. Getting into Huntington Ravine is quite easy now. The lower entrance is all filled in and makes it a breeze. The Fan is looking quite nice and all the ice lines are in and FAT! We headed up to look at the Central choke point. Once we got up to it, we realized we both did not have crampons and decided to make this our stopping point. We flipped and enjoyed firm and chalky turns on the way down. The snow was smooth and not wind effected. We looked at South Gully and decided the top would be too firm at the top/above the final choke point. We booted up Escape Hatch hoping some soft turns in the snow. After topping out and eating snow snacks we skied some funky snow in Escape Hatch. It had wind lips, spots of hard snow but towards the end of the run, it had soften and was quite enjoyable. The ski out the Huntington Trail was the best it has been all season. No open water or large rock gardens. The Sherb was firm in the windy spots and soft in the lee areas.
Some say an alpine glow.
John in the warm sun.
Puffy short life!
Dropping in right below the ice choke.
Very good turns in the fan.
