Chasing the Light - 2/22/26

Andrew and I hatched a plan to go up for a sunrise ski on Mt. Washington. We set our alarms early and pushed off from the parking lot before 5:00 a.m. We made no real plans about where to ski other than to check conditions and see what looked good.

We made quick work of the John Sherburne Ski Trail and found ourselves in the bowl as the sky was changing colors. We decided that Chute looked prime and began booting up. Once below the choke point, we assessed conditions and pushed higher.

The glow was starting to come over the Wildcat Ridge, so we kicked out a bench and began to transition. Andrew dropped first and scored some insane turns. Noticing the slough chasing him down, my turns were firm but incredible in the pink and purple morning light. Grinning ear to ear, we skied over to Right Gully.

Booting up Right Gully, the sun was fully out and Tuckerman Ravine was a blank canvas for us. We transitioned above The Lip and skied to the rollover. Andrew dropped again and made a few loud, scratchy turns down.

Again, I enjoyed some magical turns on a slightly firmer surface, choosing to manage my slough by staying above it. A quick check of the watch and we raced back up Right Gully for the final lap of the morning.

After a little encouragement from above the Ravine, Andrew dropped Center Headwall, carving a perfect line down the middle of the Bowl. I enjoyed another lap off The Lip, and then we headed down the Sherburne Ski Trail.

The Sherb is quite amazing, smooth and fast. The perfect exit on a perfect morning. Another one for the morning crew!
