Tuckerman Ravine - The Chute

Hilary setting the booter up Chute.

Trail: Sherburne to Chute (Tuckerman Ravine).

Notes: A big thanks to Ben Cargill for clearing the downed trees on the Sherb. Ben has done a lot for the backcountry community, including all the work with Granite Backcountry Alliance, we appreciate you!

The weather continues to nickel and dime the upper elevations. From 3,000' upward, there was new snow, 1 - 3". Visibility was poor in the bowl and the winds were worse than expected (Obs Fx called for lower winds by they were still above 30mph). We found lots of pockets of fresh unconsolidated snow throughout the bowl with no signs of instability. In the Chute, it was mostly new snow on old sluff that ran yesterday after being skied.

Beta: Much like yesterday, the conditions this time of year are all over the map. We had flat light, wind, and cold to deal with. There is plenty of (defensive) skiing to be had but often it's wise to pick better days to hang out in the elements!

One of the several blowdown removals that happened yesterday.

Scuzzfest round 2.

Hilary approaching the transition point in Chute.
