Cog Railway 12/3/24
Dec 03, 2024
Skinning up the Cog towards Waumbek Station.
Trail: Cog Railway to Jacob’s Ladder
Notes: After seeing a few friends enjoying turns on the West side I had to check it out for myself. We were greeted with 1-3” of fluffy snow atop a solid base. Coverage is good in most spots but a rubber pipe and an exposed basketball size rock were observed. Neither were an issue on the way back down but it’s still early season so be careful out there. Visibility was poor with thick cloud cover and flat light which made 4500’ and above tricky. We opted to turn around at about 5000’ or so before we were in the worst of the wind.
Beta: A NW wind was present throughout the day and picked up as we gained elevation, gusting around 25 mph or so. Snow flurries became steadier as the afternoon went along but tapered as we descended, likely just an upslope shower. The skiing was pleasant and tracks had been partially filled in since our ascent. No complaints today!
Enjoying some fresh powder above Waumbek.
