Duchess and Dodge's Drop 3/20/25
Mar 20, 2025
Our mission began in the dark as we made our way up a quickly deteriorating Sherburne Ski Trail. The snow had not even fully frozen over through the night. There was only one section where we found ourselves skinning on grass. Making our way up Hillman's Highway we watched the sun show off behind us. The booter was well packed in all the way to the top. Spencer and I split off as I headed over to Duchess. Its a repeat but I have been eyeing it up since early January.
I could easily get my edge in but the snow was still firm. The two chokes were easy to navigate but are quite tight. The lower snowfields held much softer skiing. Spencer and I transitioned and we made our way back to the Boott Spur Ridge. Again, Spencer and I parted ways. Rock hopping, I made my way to Dodge's Drop. I found an untouched line and enjoyed soft turns. The lower section was firmer and was made up of many runnel lines. The choke had two sections of ice but could be managed with minimal technical moves. The Sherb offered an equal mix of firm and soft snow that made for a quick descent. We were able to ski on snow top to bottom but that is short to last.
