Gulf of Happiness - 12/28/25

Guest blog by Carley

Our group of four (Colin, Marc, Liam, and Carley) set out at 7am to head up the Gulf of Slides Trail with the objective to check out Main Gully. Thank goodness we got there when we did because the lot was packed with people. A few precarious water bars at the bottom of GOS trail, but otherwise the skin up was amazing, especially with the blue skies and sun poking out. We could see the giant crownline and avalanche debris field at the base of Main Gully—something big must have ripped! We skinned as far as we could into the gully (perhaps too far) before transitioning to booting. We stayed lookers left of the ice bulge that has formed mid-way and then split into two groups. Marc and Liam continued lookers left while Colin and I headed right into a little Y offshoot from Main.

While we were transitioning people starting filing into the base. The gully was also fully in the sun and we could notice some significant warming of the snowpack.

Liam and Marc skied down skiers-right. The top of the run had a rain crust over some firm but edgeable snowpack until the ice buldge, which was easily avoided by staying far right. The snow was then nothing but fun edgeable happiness.

Colin and I found the goods on the left side of the Y, with more of that fun edgable happiness top to bottom. There was lots of sluffing, but it was very manageable.

The ski out of GOS was spicy. There was good coverage but the snow was grabby. There was also a mix of dodging sharks, people skinning up, and water bars.

All in all, a very rad morning.
