Lower Hillmans & Sherb 12/29/24
Dec 29, 2024
I wanted to get a little more skiing in before the R word came in later on so headed up the Sherb and poked into the lower part of Hillmans. Given the warm temps over the last few days more rocks are exposed even in upper parts of the Sherb; water is starting to flow a bit more as well (see below photos). Hillmans has a few choke points to navigate and is still a boulder field down below. The runout between the start of the Sherb and Hillmans proper will also be a bit interesting to navigate after the incoming weather.
Skiing was either firm or a grabby mix of crust and manky snow. Due to the temperature inversion and non-existent winds it felt like spring up there which made for a pleasant morning. The Sherb was firm & crusty to start but softened up into corn-like snow in the lower third of the run.Â
Things will look a bit different after tonight and tomorrow and there will be plenty of adventure skiing to be had in the coming week(s). Winter 1.1 was fun while it lasted, lets hope for more snow in 2025!

First section of the Sherb - water will be flowing here later today
Lower Sherb hanging on but some thin spots are developing
Don't posthole the Sherb! If you need to hike down cut over to the TRT
