The Harvard Cafe/ Sherburne Ski Trail - 12/31/24
Dec 31, 2024
With hopes of checking on some ski/ ice conditions, I drove to Pinkham with little expectations. After skinning for 300 feet, I sadly put my skis on my back and started walking up the TRT. The best part of the day was enjoying a cup of coffee at the Harvard Cafe with Jimmy Rips. (The FKT blend from White Mountain Coffee Co to be exact!!!) Getting some photos and beta from him, I abandoned all hope of climbable ice in Huntington Ravine and headed over to Tuckerman Ravine. Having to put crampons on at Hermit Lake was not a good sign. After arriving to the emergency cache and seeing no visibility in the bowl, I turned around. The skiing was....well..... not great. A slick surface coupled with several boot packs people had put in, the Sherburne was almost un-skiable. After a short battle..... I put my skis on my back and walked down (the side) of the ski trail. New snow is coming and it looks to be a good storm. Be aware of what will be under the new snow as it falls!!!!
The top third of the Sherb still had decent coverage.
Sharks!!!!
Rock jump area.
The last turn.
