Pinkham Front Range Traverse 1/26/24

Started out early this morning at Pinkham notch, we were pleasantly surprised with warmer than expected temperatures. Spencer and I's plan was to head into Huntington In search of skiable terrain. We got into the ravine around six in the morning and we were once again surprised by no winds in the base of Huntington. We headed up South Gully which has decent skiing above and below the crux but requires care through the choke. We continued onward and endured the high winds across the Alpine Garden and dropped into Right Gully and skied chalky snow in the flat early morning light. At Hojo's Spencer made his way down the Sherb to work and I continued up Hillman's for the next part of the day. Hillmans was pretty uniform firm snow with a few inches from the mornings precipitation making for good skiing. I topped out the climbers right choke and opted to ski about a third of the way down, enjoying soft and some firm turns. I then booted back up and made my way over the crest of Boott's Spur and across the Gulf of Slides to Main Gully. Main Gully was the highlight of the day with some amazing soft snow. The GOS trail skied far better than the past few week but still needs another storm or two. Its amazing when the conditions, weather (despite some bad visibility) and fitness line up to link together all these ravines we travel in. Days like TODAY are pure Ski-Mountaineering joy.
