Right Gully - Tuckerman Ravine 1/29/2025
Jan 29, 2025
With new snow in the last 24 hours and some strong overnight winds, we made our way cautiously into the Ravine with a good crew this morning. Better visibility (still not great) and lower winds allowed us to access the floor of the Ravine without much pushback from Mother Nature. We opted for Right Gully as we anticipated larger wind slabs on Eastern aspects in the center of the Ravine.Â
The lower half of the bowl consisted of variable snow surfaces, powder drifts accompanied wind scoured terrain. We dug a quick hand pit at the choke heading up Right and found the top layer of snow to be a consistent 4F and moderately reactive. We proceeded with caution and found the upper section of the gully to be more wind effected and firmer. This made for a smooth ascent but less than ideal skiing conditions. We topped out and enjoyed some chunky snow on the way down which eventually gave way to more forgiving snow the lower we went.
The Sherburne Ski Trail is skiing nicely but some pesky sharks won't go away easily. With more snow on the way throughout the day be sure to check out the MWAC forecast (here) before venturing into higher elevations.
