Shop Boys Ski Valley Girls - 2/3/25
Feb 03, 2025
Another round of light, low density snowfall blanketed the Whites this morning as we made our way up from Pinkham Notch. Seemed like 2-4" of uniform snow with no drifting due to the calm winds at lower elevations. Our original plan was to scope out lines in Huntington Ravine but after some discussion we opted to head towards Tuckerman Ravine instead.Â
On our ascent towards Hermit Lake we saw evidence of natural slides in both Hillman's Highway and Duchess along with active wind loading in Tuckerman itself. This along with reports of reactive snow over in Huntington at the base of Odell's Gully had us rethink our plan. Turning around at Hermit Lake, we made our way partially down the Sherb and cut over to a little slide path called Valley Girls.
The approach to the slide was quite schwacky and the slide itself was a bit brushy. A little steep skinning and many grabbed branches later and we found ourselves at the top of the very bony slide. Lots of effort for only a handful of turns - worth it!
After another schwack out of the slide we made our way down a nicely covered Sherb. More snow is en route later tonight which should keep conditions above the Notch and below treeline in excellent shape. Be careful if venturing into avalanche terrain a considerable amount of snow is currently available for transport. Our local avalanche forecast can be found here.
