March Morning Sherb 3/1/25

Although less snow fell than expected, it was a beautiful morning in Pinkham Notch! I set out from a windless parking lot and soon met up with some friends that were heading up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. I delayered down to a t-shirt as it was the perfect combination of comfortable temps and low to no winds, until we reached the Hermit Lake shelters where the wind picked up and some snow was blowing around.

Visibility ended around the floor of the Ravine so I could peek into lower Hillman's, the lower snowfields, and Duchess. All three looked significantly more filled in; the avalanche event in Hillman's earlier this week had a longer runout compared to slides earlier this season.

We enjoyed soft powder turns down the Sherb with a bit of a scratchy base underneath lower down. Another solid morning on the hill.
