Westside Wigglin' 1/14/25

After hearing some eyebrow raising snow totals from the Western slopes me and my squeaky boot (or binding?) headed up through Crawford to scope it out. I was greeted with a fresh blanket of champagne powder atop a solid base along the Cog Railway.

Winds remained low until Jacob's where they picked up and visibility diminished, marking the turnaround point of the day. Easy decision when there is 2000' of untracked pow waiting below. My first run I stuck to skiers right after the initial funnel above Waumbek but the other two I cut underneath the tracks to the left side. This side is grassier in the summer and has held up better with the slow start to Winter we have had.

The base is still thin in spots with sharks lingering but coverage is generally better than the Sherburne Ski Trail. I could not get eyes on any alpine terrain given the active snow flurries and lack of visibility. No surprise here but the lines along Crawford Notch and Webster Cliff need quite a bit more snow until they are skiable. Flurries are expected to continue into the night at higher elevations so tomorrow should be another great day to get after it.

  • Do you know of a tool that shows how much snow fell where? I know plenty to look at forecasts but I whish there was a map based tool showing snowfall in the last 24h, 2d, 5d… Would be so useful!
