Alpine Glow in Tuckerman Ravine 1/22/25
Jan 22, 2025
This morning, our goal was to drop in as the Alpine Glow lit up the mountains around us. We set off early from Pinkham and skinned up through the cold to Hojos. Continuing into the base of the bowl we were greeted with a beautiful crescent moon over Boot Spur. The wind was calm but piercing in the early hours. Booting up, we entered Right Gulley and made our way 1/2 of the way up. In awe, we watched the sun slowly rise and present its beautiful colors all over the sky and snow.Â
Caleb, Spencer and I skied two laps in Right on a stubborn and firm wind board. It wasn't fantastic skiing but the views were well worth it. Spencer and I made our way to Hillmans to continue the morning escapade. The bottom 100 yards were firm and icy. We climbed 100 feet above the narrow choke and transitioned. It was similar snow as Right but a little bit more grabby. The Sherb was fun and firm but we could get our edge in. Many sections are getting thin and sharks are present! The lower pitches featured many hidden icy patches that caught us off guard.Â
