Connection Cache & A Poke Into Hillmans 1/4/25

Curious what the Ravine had in store and after reading MWAC's latest advisory, we decided to go up and have a look. Mother Nature had other plans for us; zero visibility and high winds prevented us from getting past the Connection Cache into the Ravine proper. Another good day for a FaceGlove.

After a quick downclimb and warmup we made our way to Hillmans to see how it was holding up. There is a large blowdown right at the first aid cache, a few broken branches later and it is passable (see below photo). We poked our head up into the line only to be greeted by more low vis and the typical early season boulder field. I saw what appeared to be avy debris in the runout but can't say for certain given our proximity or lack thereof to the spot in question.

The Sherb is still hanging in there with some soft patches up high accompanied by a mixed bag of conditions on the bottom 2/3 of the run. As the weekend goes on it will likely become more firm. Keep an eye out for some lurking sharks as they can be tricky to spot given the amount of twigs and debris on the trail due to the high winds as of late. It could definitely be worse!

Lower pitch on the Sherb holding on for dear life
Icy patches rearing their ugly head
