Tuckerman Ravine 4/12/25
Apr 12, 2025
Spencer and I made our way up to Hermit Lake Shelter as the snow flurried down around us. With minimal hope we continued up but visibility improved as we got closer to the Ravine Floor. We began climbing up Chicken Rock and into Sluice. In the steeper pitches, I wallowed significantly punching trough the snowpack. Most turns were firm as the new snow was insignificant.
With time to spare before work, we decided to get in another lap. Spencer and I headed over to Chute. Splitting up, I topped out before traversing to Variation South. The upper snowfield was bare ice. My skis chattered as I struggled to get an edge over the exposed terrain. As I approached the roll over, I found untracked powder below. The following turns were buttery and fun through the rocky and shrubby terrain. The Sherb skied well and we only had to take our skis off on two bottom pitches.
