Straight from the start, the VJ Ultra 3 performs well on different paths with perks that protect in slick terrain and also provide cushion for firmer conditions. Surfaces tested while wearing these shoes included pavement, gravel, singletrack and technical trail. At first glance the super shoe cushiness seems like it may have instability, but forms to the differing surfaces with no trouble. The speed lacing system and simple upper design keep a basic approach while securing your foot to the ground. With a wider foot, one of my favorite specifics was the roomier toe box for a natural fit. The superFOAM design feels like a marshmallow heel cup with maximum cushion for long distance days. Whether you are going for a short time trial up a technical 4000 footer, or an ultra distance on rolling dirt roads, this shoe provides the necessities for both.
